PATTERN PLAY WITH PENS by Joni Feddersen .....South Carolina's first Certified Zentangle Teacher.
This week Zentangle came out with a new tangle on their website, it’s name is Ixorus and you can see it at http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs023/1101168872594/archive/1104275414191.html
Our Diva challenged us to use this new tangle in our weekly challenge and has had tremendous response. The tangle seems to lend itself to blending into other tangles. It was a joy to work with this tangle and to play with adding others to it. I hope you like the results.
The theme for the 5th weekly challenge was “orbs”. The yin yang symbol came to mind. Feeling that drawing circles or orbs was calming and giving great satisfaction, this ancient Chinese symbol representing balance and harmony of opposite forces seemed appropriate for this challenge. Thank you Laura for this wonderful challenge, it was good to bring some balance and harmony into my life, and I hope that all these wonderful challenge entries have brought some of the same feelings to you.
Zentangled Pinewood Derby Car,
Two of my Grandchildren spent the weekend with us, making pinewood derby cars. Chris built one like an 18 wheeler and Carol made her first pinewood derby car with a feminine touch. She will be allowed to race with the rest of the cub scout siblings. Carol likes shiny and pretty things and she wanted a feather on her car. We painted it a metallic Bronze, added the feather and some bling. Fortunately for me she allowed me to add Zentangle patterns to dress it up. Way fun! Here is how it turned out.

My interpretation led me to draw a typical star string and use paradox in each of the star sections… it needed more. I added strips of “coaster” and “meer” to the background. See small picture…. It needed more.
I got out my Bic fine tipped markers and added a little color and finally was satisfied with my tile.
Think I’ll go make another.
Mandalas have always intrigued me, and now they are creeping into my Zentangles. This one was taken from a free coloring page, and I added the tangles, the color and the shading. I’m trying to figure out an accurate way to draw them from scratch.
I think they are going to be a little like the “potato chip” thing, you can’t do just one.
Our Task this week was to draw a string with our eyes wide Shut! Yikes! Inspired by the excellent result our challenge host, Laura had from her string… where she found that if you persevere success can be achieved, I blindly forged ahead (literally). This tile is the result. It’s not my favorite Zentangle ever, but I was impressed with the way I could make something out of a really crummy string (I draw much better with my eyes open). Wish I had taken a picture of the string... it was rather lame. It was a fun experience, give it a try.
