Zentangled Pinewood Derby Car,

Two of my Grandchildren spent the weekend with us, making pinewood derby cars. Chris built one like an 18 wheeler and Carol made her first pinewood derby car with a feminine touch. She will be allowed to race with the rest of the cub scout siblings. Carol likes shiny and pretty things and she wanted a feather on her car. We painted it a metallic Bronze, added the feather and some bling. Fortunately for me she allowed me to add Zentangle patterns to dress it up. Way fun! Here is how it turned out.

My interpretation led me to draw a typical star string and use paradox in each of the star sections… it needed more. I added strips of “coaster” and “meer” to the background. See small picture…. It needed more.

I got out my Bic fine tipped markers and added a little color and finally was satisfied with my tile.

Think I’ll go make another.

Mandala Mania,

Mandalas have always intrigued me, and now they are creeping into my Zentangles. This one was taken from a free coloring page, and I added the tangles, the color and the shading. I’m trying to figure out an accurate way to draw them from scratch.

I think they are going to be a little like the “potato chip” thing, you can’t do just one.

Weekly Challenge #3

Our Task this week was to draw a string with our eyes wide Shut! Yikes! Inspired by the excellent result our challenge host, Laura had from her string… where she found that if you persevere success can be achieved, I blindly forged ahead (literally). This tile is the result. It’s not my favorite Zentangle ever, but I was impressed with the way I could make something out of a really crummy string (I draw much better with my eyes open). Wish I had taken a picture of the string... it was rather lame. It was a fun experience, give it a try.

Galloping into 2011

Had a lot of fun new years eve putting the finishing tangles on this horse (8x10). I started with a simple drawing and added the tangles to it.
The horse "midnight" asked for a moon to go behind it, he thought some color would be appropriate. I used a fair amount of pencil shading and an 01 pen to do the tangles. This was really a fun process.

This was an interesting concept for me, and felt very awkward, however as I got into it I could see some wonderful possibilities. I am planning to explore this further.
